The Buzz: February 14, 2013

Is there a more romantic way to spend Valentine’s than with your sweetheart? Of course not. Since you’re reading this, we’ll assume you’ve chosen us. Thanks, we have some taffy for you.

We found some great commentary from one of our interns. Here name is Josephine Ibisagba, and she is currently working with Rep. Becky Edwards. She wrote a piece about her experience at the legislature in the Davis County Clipper.

The House overwhelming the name change for Dixie State College (soon to be University). When introducing the bill, Rep. Ipson told the story of his great-grandfather who nearly caused a brawl on the House floor over a similar name change. For more coverage, the Deseret News published an article about the Dixie status upgrade.

HB295, Electronic Proof of Owner’s or Operator’s Security, passed the House with a unanimous vote of 70-0-5. This bill would allow those who need to show proof of insurance to a police officer would be allowed to do so in electronic form, via a cell phone. It moves onto the Senate.

Financial Ready Utah, a non-profit organization to encourage Utah to prepare for a possible economic crisis due to the federal government’s budget situation, held a press conference on the Hill. Here’s a recap.
