Overview of the Day:
Today is the eleventh day of the 2017 Legislative Session. The House prayer was offered by Chaplain Jeremy Caskey, a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tyler Herrera, Representative Handy’s intern.
Later in the day, the Majority Caucus was excited to welcome head football coaches from six universities in Utah – Brigham Young University, Dixie State University, Southern Utah University, University of Utah, Utah State University and Weber State. ABC 4 Sportscaster Wesley Ruff came to moderate the caucus meeting with the coaches.
After personal introductions, Ruff asked the panel of coaches a variety of questions. In response to what is the hardest part of being a head coach, they all agreed that finding the balance between family and work life was the biggest struggle. They later also agreed the game has been evolving to be more all-consuming for their players, demanding their attention and hard work almost every day of the year. Representative Carl Albrecht ended the panel by thanking the coaches for doing a great job both in representing Utah and in raising these young men.
Bears Ears in Senate Committee Hearing
The Senate Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Committee voted upon Speaker Hughes’ concurrent resolution modifying the Bears Ears National Monument Designation boundaries earlier today (HCR 12). After the committee had listened to many comments from the public, they passed the resolution with a vote of 5-2.
