Overview of the Day:
Today is the thirty-seventh day of the 2017 Legislative Session. The House prayer and pledge were led by guests of Rep. Marie Poulson. The prayer was offered by Right Reverend Scott Hayashi, the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah. The pledge was led by a group of third graders from Butler Elementary: Gunner Dupaix, Addy Bybee, Zachary Eberhardt and Daxton Bacon.
Dan Farr and Bryan Brandenburg, the co-founders of Comic Con, visited today during morning floor time and Majority Caucus lunch. They expressed their desire to see the show grow here and increase the economy. Economically, the Salt Lake Comic Con is ranked number three in the country with more than 70,000 people attending each convention. In other news, there will be a town hall meeting tonight for Rep. Paul Ray, Rep. Mike Schultz and Sen. Gregg Buxton at 7:00 PM at the Clinton City Town Hall to discuss current legislation and constituent concerns.
Meet a New Representative: Mike Winder
Rep. Mike Winder now represents District 30 in West Valley City. Rep. Winder received his MBA from the University of Utah. As a historian, Rep. Winder has written and published 12 books. Mike served West Valley City for four years as Business Development Manager in the Economic Development Department, four years on the City Council, and four years as Mayor. As a businessman, Mike was VP of Marketing for Winder Farms, founder of consulting firm Neptune Strategies and today is Director of Entrepreneurship Programs for Zions Bank. Utah Business named him as one of Utah’s “40 Rising Stars Under 40”. A husband and father of four, Mike is a great addition to the House.
