The New Prison Price

Today, House Majority Leader Brad Wilson participated on a panel to discuss the relocation of the prison. The original cost estimates for building the prison were $550 million, but that only accounted for building the facility itself. As soon as it was decided to build the new prison just east of The Great Salt Lake, a choice made to save on long-term operating costs, the final estimate, with site costs and all, is $692 million. This move, experts say, will create conditions for unprecedented economic growth in the Silicon Slopes area where the current prison is located. Prescription Imports

Representative Norm Thurston presented his prescription imports bill to the House Health and Human Services Committee today. The bill would allow Utah to import safe, regulated prescriptions from Canada, whose average prescription price is 30 percent cheaper than what we pay in the U.S. The bill passed committee 9-2.
