Today on the Hill

Today was Film Day on the Hill! Schools and businesses in the film, creating and watching business came to show their support for theatre and film and had an opportunity to talk with legislators about the industry.

Martha is one step closer to going to D.C.

Today the House overwhelmingly passed SCR1 that would allow for the replacement of Philo T. Farnsworth with a statue of Martha Hughes Cannon in Statutory Hall in D.C. Martha was the first woman in the U.S. to be elected to state Senate, beating out her husband in the race. She was also a Dr. and mother amid many other responsibilities and accomplishments.

Prescription Drug Amendments

In a close vote, Rep. Norm Thurston’s bill to reduce prescription drug costs for Utahns, HB 163, passes the house 39-31. The bill would allow for Utah, though FDA regulations, to import certain drugs from Canada that are, on average, 30 percent cheaper than what American’s pay. After a heated floor debate, the bill now heads off to the Senate for consideration.
