Today on the Hill

Today was After School Day on the hill! After-school organizations like The Boy’s and Girl’s Club came to the capitol to meet with their legislators and advocate for after-school activities and groups for children. Also, last night Rep. Jon Stanard announced his resignation due to family concerns. House Speaker Greg Hughes issued a statement saying, “We will honor his request for privacy, and ask that others do the same. We wish Jon and his family the best at this time.”

The Olympics

We had a special ceremony take place at the Capitol today. State leaders attended the special Olympic/Paralympic Exploratory Committee Board Meeting press conference that detailed Utah’s plan to again host the Winter Olympics, with a focus on making it happen in 2030. Governor Herbert signed SCR 009, Concurrent Resolution on Utah’s Olympic Exploratory Committee and its Efforts to Explore Hosting of a Future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The governor and other leaders of the sate expressed Utah’s readiness, willingness, and capability in hosting a Winter Olympics once again and touted the success of the 2002 Winter Olympics and Utah’s ability in effectively maintaining the facilities.
