Today on the Hill

Today was After School Day on the Hill! After-school organizations like The Boy’s and Girl’s Club came to the capitol to meet with their legislators and advocate for after-school activities and groups for children. Also, Rep. Jon Stanard has resigned from the House.  Speaker Greg Hughes issued this statement, “Last night Rep. Stanard unexpectedly resigned due to personal and family concerns. We will honor his request for privacy, and ask that others do the same. We wish Jon and his family the best at this time.”

The Olympics

In 2002, Utah successfully hosted the Winter Olympics and has effectively maintained the facilities. Today, the Olympic/Paralympic Exploratory Committee had a board meeting and press conference that detailed the committee’s plans to host future Winter Olympics in 2026 or 2030. The House and Senate passed  SCR 9, Concurrent Resolution on Utah’s Olympic Exploratory Committee and its Efforts to Explore Hosting of a Future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and Governor Herbert signed it. During the press conference, the committee expressed Utah is “ready, willing, and able” to host a future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games once again.
