The Daily Buzz – February 29, 2016

It’s Leap Day so make sure to use the “extra” day wisely.

Thinking leap year means the 2016 Legislature will be sneaking in an extra day of business?

Think again.

Despite it being leap year, this year’s legislative session will be 45 calendar days as provided for by statute, minus the President’s Day holiday, which, unlike weekends, is never counted as one of the 45 session days.

The Utah House pay tribute to families of fallen Utah soldiers.

“We are committed to remembering that the preservation of our liberty comes at a price, and that price is often paid by young men and women who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to protect the lives of innocent people in lands far from home,” the citation read in part.

Rep. Fawson said “I wish to comfort those who still mourn, to give light to those whose pathways may be dark, to offer hope to all who look forward to a brighter day, to echo the voice of those who are no longer with us, and to express love.” Rep. Fawson served overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“As your lawmakers and your representatives, you need to know that we are here and that we are your voice,” said Speaker Hughes.

Utah Aerospace Day

The Utah chapter of the Aerospace States Association (ASA) was announced Friday, February 26 at the Capitol. The Director of Government Operations for Boeing Steven Hendrickson read a declaration from Governor Herbert that established Feb. 26 as Utah Aerospace Day. Industry partners had exhibits in the Capitol rotunda.

There were live demonstrations of manned and unmanned aerial systems in various locations across Utah, and several industry partners sponsored exhibits in the Capitol rotunda that showcased Utah’s aerospace assets.

Dr. Seuss

The Cat in the Hat visited the House to remind members of the joy reading can bring.
