Overview of the Day:
Today marks the thirtieth day of the 2017 Legislative Session. The House prayer and pledge were led by guests of Rep. Carol Spackman Moss. The prayer was offered by Reverend Nancy Cormack-Hughes, the Chaplain at Bristol Hospice in Salt Lake City. The pledge was led by Rep. Moss’ intern, Michael Pitcher.
United State Senator Orrin Hatch came to speak to the House Chamber today during morning floor time. He addressed his concerns over the Bear Ears National Monument Designation and explained that Congress and President Donald Trump are both trying to resolve the issue. Senator Hatch also stressed his support for President Trump asking everyone to “give Trump a chance.” He believes the most important acts of the President are judicial appointments, and he is very pleased with President Trump’s nominee, Neil Gorsuch.
Senator Hatch ended his speech thanking the representatives in the room for their amazing efforts in balancing the Utah budget. In return, Speaker Greg Hughes thanked Senator Hatch for working on bills at twice the pace of his fellow senators.
