Overview of the Day:
Today is the sixteenth day of the 2017 Legislative Session. The House prayer and pledge were led by guests of Representative Eric Hutchings. The prayer was offered by Rep. Hutchings’ uncle, Larry Hutchings, and his great-nephew, Phillip Haight.
During the Natural Resources, Agricultural, and Environment, Rep. Norm Thurston presented his bill – HJR 2: Nonbinding Opinion Question on Daylight Saving Time. This joint resolution will direct the lieutenant governor to present an opinion question on ballots to determine whether Utah citizens want to become exempt from Daylight Saving Time. This would mean Utah would not change their clocks twice each year.
The bill did not pass the committee with a vote of 4-5.
Meet a New Representative: Carl Albrecht
Representative Carl Albrecht now represents District 70 in Richfield. He received his B.S. degree in business from Southern Utah State College. Rep. In 2014, Rep. Albrecht was recognized as the Rural Person of the Year. He lives by the following quote: “Success is easy. Get up, show up, and work hard. 90% of the people don’t do that.” Rep. Albrecht will be a great addition the House.
