Over 120 people from more than 45 countries became U.S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony at the Utah State Capitol on June 29, 2016. The event, hosted by Rep. Norm Thurston, was the third to be held at the Capitol in recent memory.
“I’m honored to be part of this special day and host the ceremony at the Utah State Capitol,” said Rep. Thurston. “I commend those who have chosen to become U.S. citizens and congratulate their hard work to become part of our society and obtain the rights, privileges and civic responsibilities it entails.”
Utah Speaker of the House Greg Hughes, Rep. Thurston and Carla Swensen-Haslam, former member of the Colombian U-20 national soccer team and Brigham Young University soccer player, spoke at the ceremony.
“I would like to congratulate the newest citizens of our great country,” said Speaker Greg Hughes in a statement. “I commend you for your accomplishment and encourage you to be engaged throughout your city and state institutions and become thought-leaders among your spheres of influence.”
