Over 100 people from more than 40 countries became U.S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony at the Utah State Capitol on September 29, 2016. The event was hosted by Rep. Norm Thurston and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Abdou W. Niang, Goldman Sachs vice president Securities Division Operations delivered special remarks during the ceremony, who recently became a U.S. citizen.
“Active citizenship means getting involved with your local communities,” said Niang. “I’m proud to be an American.”
Dr. Robert Harter, Park City Christian Center executive director, was the master of ceremonies. Laura McNeer, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Salt Lake City director, administered the oath. The Madrigal Choir from the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts sang the national anthem.
After the ceremony, the U.S. citizens were able to register to vote and participate in the upcoming election.
