Rep. Derek Brown announces resignation

Rep. Derek Brown, R-Cottonwood Heights, announced Thursday that he would be resigning from the Utah House of Representatives effective Jan. 2, 2014. He’s taking a job with U.S. Sen. Mike Lee as deputy chief of staff.

Here is his letter to Speaker of the House Becky Lockhart.

The Republican party is tasked with choosing a replacement, who will then be appointed by Gov. Gary Herbert.

As a gentle reminder, the Legislature’s general session begins Jan. 27, and we’re going to have to appoint the new representative to committees and show him or her where the bathrooms are, so the sooner the appointment comes, the better.
